A range of good used equipment will be on sale.
Field Days 2006
Once again Westlakes ARC was blessed with a glorious day for our Mini field day, held
Saturday 1st July 2006.
The dedicated few turned up early and began the task of assembling the canopy, setting up
the tables and preparing the food for the BBQ. The boot traders were not far behind,
seeking the best vantage spots to display their wares.
The sales Table opened at 9am and although attendance appeared to be down on last year
and given that this is the MINI Field Day a very good turn out of members and friends kept
the sales table and boot traders busy throughout the day.
Alec VK2ZM fired up the Barbie at 10 o'clock and soon had a line of people anxious to
sample his cooking, which must have been passable as this activity continued non stop until
the food ran out around 1.30pm and resulted in a lot of satisfied well fed customers.
Midday saw the start of the auction with Auctioneer Rob VK2MF ably assisted by Greg
VK2CW and Aly VKAFZ extracting the last available dollar from the throng of bidders.
The normal Westlakes Badge Prizes, guessing competition and raffles were drawn.
And those lucky enough to take home the goodies went away well pleased.
As has become the custom at Westlakes, prior to closing the unwanted items on the sales
table were offered for free, first in best dressed, resulting in very few items left to return to
the store.
A vote of thanks to those members and non members who assisted throughout the day and
stayed behind to assist in the cleanup.

The well advertised and long awaited Westlakes Major Field Day Sunday 12th
November is now but a memory. However for the vast majority who attended, well
over 200 they will be very positive and pleasant memories.
The day started for the dedicated few at 7.30am with volunteers assisting in the food
preparation and assembling the trestles, while coming to terms with the myriad
section of the canopy. We will be better educated in future.
Barricades were set up along with the signing in table. All was ready well before the
9am opening.
The boot sales were rolling in along with the Pantec belonging to the Lemon Tree
Passage Coast Guard closely followed by the local WICEN caravan . both of these
organisations were soon set up ready to display and explain their systems to all
those interested.
WICENS State Management Committee had arranged to hold their yearly meeting
at Westlakes in the Library and this was underway by 10 am.
The Sales tables as well as the boot sales were well underway by that time with a
steady stream of successful buyers trekking from the tables to their vehicles to
deposit the booty before returning to the fray.
Andrews communications, as promise arrive early and Lee soon had a host of the
latest radios and accessories on display and was inundated by potential buyers.
Our resident Chef Alex VK2ZM had the Barbie smoking by that time while Dianne
sat ready to issue the bread rolls to the long line of hungry shoppers. The air was
soon filled with the aromas of sizzling steaks and sausages.
As advertised a couple of pedestrian Fox Hunts had been arranged and we thank
Brian VK2BI for arranging and supplying the foxes as well as several sniffers. The
response to this event was less than we would have liked with only 5 taking part.
However those that did participate went at it with a vengeance.
The final points went to Jessica VK2FJES, closely followed by Leyton VK2LI with
Walter VK2FWAZ only a point behind.
The Badge prizes went to Col VK2YP and Richard VK2FRKO while Allan
VK2FLTP was successful in getting the closest to the number of Jelly Beans in the
jar.
The major Raffle, a signed picture of the Socceroos went to VK2BAR while
GregVK2CW took home the monster meat tray.
Westlakes wishes to thank our sponsors for their generous donation of these prizes

At midday with the food petering out Col VK2YP announced the commencement of
the famous Westlakes Auction. An auction which found the tables overloaded with a
variety of preloved articles, ranging from hotplates, Television sets, computer
monitors along with both HF, VHF and UHF transmitters and everything in between.
Col VK2YP ably assisted by penciller Greg VK2CW and money man Ali VK2AFZ
soon has a frenzy of bidders clamouring for and being knocked down unbelievable
bargains.
Col, who claims it was his first attempt at auctioneering managed for the first time
in many Field Days to clear the table of goodies, an effort which deserves a big
thank you.
Following the auction with the crowd heading for home those same dedicated few
tackled the task of clearing the leftovers from the bargain tables, dismantling the
canopy and returning the trestles to the storage container in readiness for the next
Westlakes ARC event.
As President I would like to thank all those who assisted in this exceptional day
including those Amateurs and friends who came in their hundreds to make this yet
another Successful Westlakes Field Day.
